Latisse (bimatoprost ophthalmic solution, 0.03%) is an FDA-approved medication used to lengthen, thicken, and darken eyelashes. It contains the same active component as Lumigan, a medication prescribed for glaucoma.
Latisse should be applied every night by dabbing it on the upper lash line with the sterile applicators provided. The medication will naturally travel to your lower lash line as you blink. It should never be used directly on your eyes. Before using Latisse, ensure that your face is clean and that all makeup and contact lenses are removed.
After using Latisse, always discard the applicator. Reusing applicators, even just the next evening, might result in significant complications, such as an eye infection or an allergic reaction. Additionally, exercise caution during application, as Latisse may stimulate hair growth in other skin areas.
After two months of consistent usage, you may begin to see stronger and longer eyelashes. You can gradually space out applications after three or four months.
Latisse is a relatively safe medicine that is used in many cosmetic dermatology procedures. However, you may not be a candidate if you have specific eye conditions such as uveitis, eyelid dermatitis, ocular hypertension, or glaucoma. Before beginning the treatment, consult with your ophthalmologist. There are extremely few reports of ocular redness and itching in the clinical studies. Although the darkening of the iris (the colored region of the eye) has long been discussed as a potential adverse effect of Latisse, it was not reported in any of the investigations.
Don't attempt to double up your application if you forget to use Latisse. Unless you remember, within approximately an hour of your typical application time, simply skip the application. Apply your next dosage according to your usual routine.
